Black, White and Gold: The Autobiography

I was reluctant to pick up Kelly Holmes’s book thinking it would solely be the life of an athlete. ‘I ran this time, then I did some press ups and then went home and ate some pasta’ (okay so the 80s version of an athlete’s life, apparently…).

However, the double Olympic champion had a life before athletics, another passion. Fully immersed in army life Kelly couldn’t do both and something had to give.

Kelly doesn’t shy away from details about a difficult family background and it was most surprising to find out our Kel’s a bit of a party animal – I now have a picture of Kels dancing to ‘aciiiid’, which takes some doing.

So verdict? A surprising page turner. Hooked me completely.
