What’s it like… to work at a sport magazine?

What do sport journalists do all day? Is it all fun and games, watching sport on TV ‘for research’, then retiring to the pub after work to watch a match together? I spent two years at London-based Sport magazine as a sub editor.

During that time I lifted the Champions League trophy, which was doing the promotional rounds across media organisations across London (and yes it did have its own security guards).

As the resident skier I was lucky enough to go on a couple of promotional ski trips. An amazing six days in Canada and accommodated in an igloo in La Plagne, are two examples.

Alongside colleagues I headed to a private box to watch a Champions League game at Stamford Bridge and played giant Connect 4 at an athletics event.

I also filmed England rugby international, Chris Ashton, teaching my work mate and mate mate, Lawro Barretto, how to play. The humorous video has had over 37,000 hits to date, much to Lawro’s mortification.

Oh, and we also worked really hard, hence the me-asleep-at-the-desk pic. I recorded snippets along the way so watch my insider’s guide below to really go behind the scenes.
